Concept

As a starting point for the concept of my capsule collection, I took the Art Nouveau, an artistic mouvement really popular and well represented in my city, Brussels. We have good exemples of architecture, furniture and artcrafts made by Paul Hankar, Gustave Serrurier-Bovy, Henry Van de Velde and many others including one of the most famous leaders of the mouvement Victor Horta. Horta, in 1903, made the first building considered as Art Nouveau : the Tassel Hotel.

Starting with the picture of the hall, I really liked the curves of the ironwork and the paintings on the wall. The colours are amazing, sublimed by the skylight from the roof. The natural light is coming through the stained glass window and gives this wonderful atmosphere. Then, I looked at the work of stained glass window. What I really liked was the contrast between the dark iron frame and the brighter parts of the glass. Therefore, I searched for more exemples of lights that could give me this contrast. From a picture of a building in Dubai, I though about the X-Ray pictures. To still reference to my initial idea, I chose the X-Ray pictures of natural elements which is the main inspiration of the Art Nouveau. I have come with pictures of flowers, leaves, mushrooms... taken in X-Ray which show the contrast of colours I was looking for - the transparency of the X-Ray and the curves of the Art Nouveau.

Moncler

The fashion company I am developping a collection for is Moncler.

Moncler is a French fashion company founded in 1952 by René Ramillon. Moncler is the abbreviation of Monastier de Clermont, a village in France. The company was basically only selling equipement for mountain climbing such as ropes, tents, boots, clothes... Therefore, it did not start as a fashion company.
In 1954, Ramillon invented the down jacket to shelter workers from the cold. The same year, Lionel Terray, a French climber, noticed the jacket and asked Ramillon to produce the equipement for his next mountain expedition. For exemple, the Moncler equipement had been chosen for the expedition reaching the second peak on earth in 1956.

In 1968, Moncler's the official provider of the French national alpine skiing team.
1972 is the year of a desicive change. The down jacket is no longer in double version, as it has to be more practical, lighter and has to suit to competitive needs. The single version of the jacket is the forerunner of the current jacket.
In 1980, Moncler collaborated with the designer Chantal Thomass. The down jacket became more fashionable. For exemple, Thomass put fur around the collar.
In 1999, ten years after the collaboration with Chantal Thomass ended, Moncler did their first Summer/Spring collection.
In 2003, the brand is purchased by an Italian entrepreneur, Remo Ruffini, who began the strategy of the global down jacket. To do so, he created two lines:
- Moncler Gamme Rouge, a high range woman collection, created in 2006. Allesandra Facchinetti was its designer for 2 years until Giambattista Valli took her place in 2008.
-Moncler Gamme Bleu, the men collection, was launched in 2009 with Thom Browne as the designer.
Remo Ruffini made big changes for the company when Moncler entered in the Fashion world.
